- 사우스다코타(South Dakota) 주에서 발견된 티라노사우루스 (Tyrannosaurus rex)의 피부 인상 화석에 대한 고찰 -
2001년 사우스다코타 주의 헬크릭층에서 단편적인 티 라노사우루스 렉스 골격이 채집되었다. 비록 골격은 매 우 적은 숫자만 발견되었으나 목 부위의 것으로 추정되 는 피부 인상 조각들이 보존되었다. 이 연구에서는 이 피부 인상들을 다른 공룡들의 피부 인상들과 현생 파충 류들의 피부와 비교하였다. 티라노사우루스 렉스의 목 부분 피부는 서로 겹치지 않는, 혹 형태의 비늘로 덮여 있었음이 밝혀졌다. 이러한 형태는 하드로사우루스류 와 가장 유사하지만 혹 형태의 비늘이라는 점에서 분명 하게 구분된다. 또한 티라노사우루스 렉스의 목 등쪽의 피부는 꼬리 배쪽의 피부와 매우 다름이 밝혀졌다.
Review on the Skin Impressions of Tyrannosaurus rex from the South Dakota, USA
On 2001, a fragmentary skeleton of Tyrannosaurus rex (Dinosauria, Theropoda) was collected from the Hell Creek Formation, Harding County of South Dakota. Though the skeleton was largely fragmentary, patches of skin impressions were found with the cervical region. In this study, I compare these skin impressions with modern reptilian skins and currently known examples of skin impressions of other dinosaurs. It was found that cervical skin of Tyrannosaurus rex is non-imbricating, bump-like scales, similar with modern varanoid lizards. Also, though its scale pattern is generally most similar with hadrosaurid dinosaurs, they are clearly differentiated from them by its bump-like morph. It was also found that cervical, dorsal skin of Tyrannosaurus rex is highly different from caudal, ventral skin of the same species.
